Time To Break Those Rocks

Updated: Jun 30, 2021

There is a phrase that says to be “caught between a rock and a hard place”. It means to be faced with two equally undesirable alternatives. In the course of living on this earth people sometimes find themselves grappling with something that looks hard as a rock. The good news is that God’s Word can smash the problem to pieces the way a hammer breaks a rock to pieces.

Let us look at what the Word of God says about it:

Jeremiah 23:29 (New International Version)

“Is not my word like fire,” declares the Lord, “and like a hammer that breaks a rock in pieces?

God’s Word is like a hammer that breaks a rock to pieces. If there is a situation in your life that is hard as a rock, then use the Word of God as a hammer to smash it.

How To Apply The Word of God Like a Hammer

1. Identify The Issue

The first step is to identify the particular issue that is hard like a “rock”. It could be a health problem, relationship challenges, problem at work, career issue, children issue, safety concern. Whatever it is, there will always be scriptures in the Bible that address the issue directly. For instance, if it is a health problem, find the scriptures where God has promised health and healing e.g.

Isaiah 53:4-5 (New International Version)

4 Surely he took up our pain and bore our suffering, yet we considered him punished by God, stricken by him, and afflicted. 5 But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed.

Exodus 23:25 (New International Version)

Worship the Lord your God, and his blessing will be on your food and water. I will take away sickness from among you,

Or if the challenge has to do with being stuck in a position and not making satisfactory progress, you can get scriptures that have to do with progress such as:

Proverbs 4:18 (King James Version)

But the path of the just is as the shining light, that shineth more and more unto the perfect day.

Philippians 4:13 (New King James Version)

I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

3 John 2 (King James Version)

Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.

Exodus 23:20 (New King James Version)

“Behold, I send an Angel before you to keep you in the way and to bring you into the place which I have prepared.

Find the specific scriptures that speak to that situation; the scriptures where God promises victory over that challenge, or where God says He has made provision for His children to be exempt from such ordeals.

2. Smash The Challenge With The Word of God

Take the Word of God and apply it to the situation e.g. if the situation is that you have a sickness in your body , say something like:

In the Name of Jesus I command you my body to hear the Word of the Lord. It is written in Isaiah 53: 4 – 5 Surely he took up our pain and bore our suffering, yet we considered him punished by God, stricken by him, and afflicted. But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed. So I am healed by the wounds of Jesus. Jesus obtained my healing when He died on the cross so you are illegal and I command you in the Name of Jesus to leave my body and do not return.

It is also written in Exodus 23:25 Worship the Lord your God, and his blessing will be on your food and water. I will take away sickness from among you; and I worship the Lord my God, therefore God’s blessings is upon my food and my water, and He has taken away sickness from me. So sickness, the Lord God has taken you away, so I command you in the Name of Jesus to leave my body and never return.

Note that if you have accepted Jesus as your Lord and saviour, you are a child of God, an heir of God and joint-heir with Jesus, and you now inherit the promises of God. So anything God says in His Word to His people, His children, or to the followers of Jesus Christ is your inheritance.

Romans 8:16-17 (New International Version) 16 The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children. 17 Now if we are children, then we are heirs—heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory.

If you have not surrendered to Jesus and made Him the Lord of your life, you can do so by praying the salvation prayer out loud and mean it from your heart. The promises in the Word are not made to random people, but to people who have become born again and are now children of God.

See Galatians 3: 13 – 14, Galatians 3: 29, and Hebrews 8:6.

3. Be Persistent

Keep using the Word like a hammer smashing on a rock. Even in the natural scheme of things, when you use a hammer to break a rock you would hit the rock a number of times. Be persistent, there is power in persistence. Do not stop or give up, but keep speaking the Word of God to the situation till you get your desired outcome. If you observe out in the field, when people are smashing rocks with a hammer, they hit the rock as many times as it takes.

Be willing to persevere, and wait till your change comes (Job 14:14).

There is something you need to know about the Word of God; it accomplishes what God sends it out to accomplish. See what the Lord says about His Word in Isaiah 55: 10 - 11:

As the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return to it without watering the earth and making it bud and flourish, so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater, 11 so is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.

The scriptures in the Bible are God’s Word and it always accomplishes the purpose God sent it to. So go on in faith and use the Word of God as a hammer and break rocks in your life to pieces. Have faith in God, be bold and do not doubt that you will have your desired outcome.

Jesus said in Mark 11:23 “For assuredly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be removed and be cast into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that those things he says will be done, he will have whatever he says”.

How To Locate Scriptures For Different Situations

You may be wondering how to identify the scriptures that pertain to different areas of challenges you may be facing. You locate it by studying the Word of God. As you read the Bible through you will find relevant scriptures.

Note the promises of God to His people, and note the promises of Jesus to His disciples/followers. You can get a notebook or create a document or spreadsheet where you list scriptures covering various areas, and you can always continue building up this document as your own reference.

Another faster way is to Google the relevant scriptures if you need divine intervention urgently. Google using terms like “healing scriptures” “scriptures on health” “scriptures on prosperity” “promises of God on finances”, etc. You may also use a Bible concordance to find scriptures in different areas.

Are you going through difficulty right now? God’s Word is there and is powerful as ever (Hebrews 4:12), so for any problem you are having identify up to three scriptures or more, go through the steps above, and begin to break those rocks.
