Take the 21 Day Challenge To Pull Down The Walls

There is something remarkable about the walls of Jericho falling down. The account of the Battle of Jericho in the Bible can be found in Joshua Chapter 6, verses 1 - 27. Jericho was a city on the way to Canaan, the promised land. God's people had to pass through Jericho to get to their land of promise and rest.

Joshua and the Israelites received an instruction from God to march around the city of Jericho once for six days, then on the seventh day they were to march around the city seven times, and on the seventh time, the priests would blow the trumpets and everyone would shout. Then the walls of Jericho would fall down and they would take the city. It happened exactly the way God said it would when they obeyed His instruction.

When I was studying the scripture on the walls of Jericho a couple of years ago I had a new understanding of the significance of Jericho. Jericho was on the way to the promised land. They had to pass through Jericho to get to the land God had promised Abraham that He would give them. God brought the walls of Jericho down after they obeyed God and encircled the city for seven days. They did this by faith. The Bible says in Hebrews 11 verse 6:

"And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him".(New International Version)

You see God had delivered the Israelites from slavery and bondage in Egypt. It was a massive deliverance by all standards. They had been slaves in Egypt for over four hundred years. When God wanted to end their affliction and set them free he sent to Moses to tell the King of Egypt to let His people go. The King of Egypt refused to do so and God had to demonstrate His power and get His people out of Egypt with a mighty hand; great signs and wonders [See Exodus Chapters 1 - 15]..

Even now, God still brings His children out of difficult situations. Today, many Christians face difficult situations that require divine intervention. Many people are struggling to achieve something significant, or achieve or attain what God has promised them in the Bible. Some are struggling to stay afloat and keep it all together. There is a metaphorical Jericho that they have to pass through to the promised land. The walls of the city need to come down, and they take the city.

Somewhere else in the scripture, there was a man from Israel called Daniel who was a captive taken from Jerusalem to Babylon. In Babylon, God orchestrated events and had him promoted, and God made Him great. He became a well respected leader and man of influence in Babylon (See Daniel from Chapter 1).

Daniel continued to serve God faithfully in the foreign land. There was a time he faced a challenge that required divine intervention, so he prayed to God, and continued praying till the answer came on the 21st day (See Daniel 10: 1 - 14).

This gave me an inspiration. People of God who are facing challenges of any kind can articulate the issue or issues that appear to be walls of Jericho (something or things standing in the way hindering you from getting to your promised land). Praise God and pray over the issues for 21 days straight. So instead of encircling your Jericho for seven days, you will do it for 21 days (night and day) because Jesus said "and shall God not avenge His own elect who cry to Him day and night".

Luke 18: 7 - 8 (New International Version)

7 And will not God bring about justice for his chosen ones, who cry out to him day and night? Will he keep putting them off? 8 I tell you, he will see that they get justice, and quickly. However, when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on the earth?”

To recap, here is what you can do to overcome your "Jericho", take the city and get into your land of promise:

[First of all, surrender your life to Jesus if you have not done so already. You can do that by praying the Salvation Prayer sincerely from your heart out loud.]

1. Clearly determine and define what issue(s) represent a "Jericho" in your life. They could be a number of issues.

2. Locate the scriptures where God promised you victory, success, provision, deliverance, etc in those areas. A helpful guide is a book by Theo John Paul called God's Promises for You.

3. Decide on the kind of fast you will engage in for 21 days straight. READ Powerful Benefits of Fasting and Prayer

4. Decide on the day to begin your 21 day fasting, prayer, and praise programme.

5. Create your prayer points, and write down the scriptures that back up your request because the scripture tells us in 1 John 5 verses 14 - 15: "This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. 15 And if we know that he hears us—whatever we ask—we know that we have what we asked of him: (New International Version)

6. Begin. Engage in intense prayers, praises, worship, and Bible study. Keep a journal of the 21 day experience and your Bible studies through the period. Also write down anything God says to you.

7. Expect your miracle as you go through the 21 day challenge.
