How Thanksgiving Produces Miracles and Breakthroughs

Giving thanks to God produces miracles, breakthroughs, and wholeness. Gratitude is a powerful force. When you express gratitude to God, you are giving glory to God and acknowledging that God did do the marvelous works. The Bible says in Psalm 92 verses 1 and 2:

It is good to give thanks to the Lord, And to sing praises to Your name, O Most High; 2 To declare Your lovingkindness in the morning, And Your faithfulness every night. (New King James Version)

The Word of God says that giving thanks to the Lord is a good thing. Many people give thanks for something God has already done. However, giving thanks to God for something God has not yet not done, but you believe He will do is a powerful act of faith and it produces miracles and breakthroughs.

The Word of God says in Psalm 100 verse 4:

Enter into His gates with thanksgiving, And into His courts with praise. Be thankful to Him, and bless His name (Psalm 100:4 New King James Version)

When you come into God’s presence, always come with thanksgiving and praise. Be thankful and praise His holy Name. God’s presence is not only the church, your place of worship, your prayer room, or any other place you have dedicated as a place of fellowship. God’s presence is with you if you are a follower of Jesus/disciple of Jesus/child of God.

When Jesus was resurrected He met with His disciples, gave them instructions and left to Heaven where He is now seated at God’s right hand (Ephesians 1:20). Before he left he said “…And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age." (Matthew 28:20 - New International Version). This indicates that if you are a believer, God is ALWAYS with you. It therefore means that God’s presence is wherever you are.

So when the Word tells us to enter His gates with thanksgiving and His courts with praise, it means that a believer should continually be in a state of thanksgiving and praise. You can even write daily in a gratitude journal, it is a powerful practice that produces results.

Thanking God in advance for what He is yet to do is an act of faith, and Jesus said in Matthew 9 verse 29 that it will happen for you according to your faith.

“Then he touched their eyes and said, "According to your faith let it be done to you"; (Matthew 9:29 – New International Version).

When you go ahead and offer God heartfelt and sincere thanks for things He has not yet done but you are expecting Him to do because you have asked or because He promised, then it will be done for you according to your faith. So go ahead and create a list of things you are expecting God to do and thank Him for it. You can even create a vision board of the things you are expecting God to accomplish and perfect, and thank God for them. Keep thanking God till everything manifests!

Let’s look in the Bible at the many instances thanksgiving preceded major breakthroughs and victories.

Biblical Examples of Thanksgiving Producing Miracles

1. Jesus Raised Lazarus From The Dead

Read John Chapter 11. It is the chapter that details how Jesus raised Lazarus from the dead. Lazarus was dead and buried. As a matter of fact he had been dead for four days before Jesus showed up.

Take a look at the scripture in John 11 verses 41 to 44:

41 So they took away the stone. Then Jesus looked up and said, “Father, I thank you that you have heard me. 42 I knew that you always hear me, but I said this for the benefit of the people standing here, that they may believe that you sent me.”

43 When he had said this, Jesus called in a loud voice, “Lazarus, come out!” 44 The dead man came out, his hands and feet wrapped with strips of linen, and a cloth around his face.

Jesus said to them, “Take off the grave clothes and let him go.” (New International Version)

As soon as they took away the stone, Jesus looked up to God and said “Father, I thank YOU” and Lazarus came back from the dead. Regardless of the generation, raising a person from the dead is a remarkable miracle.

Note that Jesus looked up to God, you too should look up to God and thank Him when a situation looks irreparable; or looks like a lost cause. Do not look to man, look to God!

2. Jesus Healed Ten Lepers

Read Luke 17 verses 11 to 19. The scripture details how Jesus healed ten lepers.

The lepers saw Jesus and from a long distance, asked Jesus to have mercy on them and heal them. So Jesus asked them to go and show themselves to the priest. In Israel in those days, when a leper was healed the law was that the leper had to go and show them self to the priest. (See Leviticus 14).

For the lepers it was an act of faith to go and show themselves to the priest on the instruction of Jesus. They still had leprosy but they obeyed Jesus’ command. As the lepers went, they all became cleansed but only one came back to thank Jesus.

See Luke 17 verses 15 to 19:

15 One of them, when he saw he was healed, came back, praising God in a loud voice. 16 He threw himself at Jesus’ feet and thanked him—and he was a Samaritan.

17 Jesus asked, “Were not all ten cleansed? Where are the other nine? 18 Has no one returned to give praise to God except this foreigner?” 19 Then he said to him, “Rise and go; your faith has made you well.”

King James Version says “…thy faith hath made thee whole.”

The nine lepers were cleansed but the one who returned to thank Jesus was made whole. When you thank God after a miracle, it brings wholeness and perfection to the miracle.

3. Jesus Fed the Multitudes From Seven Loaves and Small Fish

Another instance in the Bible where Jesus’ thanksgiving produced miracles is in Matthew 15 verses 32 to 38 in the miracle of the seven loaves and small fish.

32 Now Jesus called His disciples to Himself and said, “I have compassion on the multitude, because they have now continued with Me three days and have nothing to eat. And I do not want to send them away hungry, lest they faint on the way.”

33 Then His disciples said to Him, “Where could we get enough bread in the wilderness to fill such a great multitude?”

34 Jesus said to them, “How many loaves do you have?” And they said, “Seven, and a few little fish.”

35 So He commanded the multitude to sit down on the ground. 36 And He took the seven loaves and the fish and gave thanks, broke them and gave them to His disciples; and the disciples gave to the multitude. 37 So they all ate and were filled, and they took up seven large baskets full of the fragments that were left. 38 Now those who ate were four thousand men, besides women and children. (New King James Version)

Jesus had been preaching and teaching a crowd of people for three days and afterward he decided to provide food for the thousands of people gathered to hear Him. It turns out they only had seven loaves of bread and a few small fish!

Verses 36 and 37 above say that Jesus took what was available and gave thanks, and what was few became enough to feed up to four thousand people with basketfuls left over. God is still the same God. God says in Malachi 3 verse 6:

6 “For I am the Lord, I do not change; Therefore you are not consumed, O sons of Jacob. (New King James Version)

The Bible also says in Hebrews 13 verse 8:

Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever (New King James Version).

Since God is still the same God, if you do what Jesus did in the same situation, you will get the same result.

Thanksgiving Mixed With Faith

The Word of God says in Philippians 4 verse 6:

Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; (New King James Version)

This scripture confirms to us that we should include thanksgiving in our prayers as we make requests to God.

Thanksgiving produces miracles, breakthroughs, multiplication, abundance, and wholeness.
