So You Want New Wine? Here Is What To Do
First of all, let us talk about the significance of new wine in the Bible.
In the Old Testament, new wine was mentioned in Deuteronomy 7: 12 – 13 and Jeremiah 31:12. In both instances, new wine was associated with blessing, increase and abundance.
In the New Testament, Jesus talked about new wine in Matthew 9: 16 – 17, Mark 2: 21 -22, and Luke 5: 36 – 38. Here new wine is associated with the Holy Spirit. A new outpouring of God’s Spirit. A new infilling.
Jesus gave a condition for receiving new wine; He said new wine skins should be made available. Jesus says in Matthew 9 verses 16 to 17:
“No one puts a piece of unshrunk cloth on an old garment; for the patch pulls away from the garment, and the tear is made worse. Nor do they put new wine into old wineskins, or else the wineskins break, the wine is spilled, and the wineskins are ruined. But they put new wine into new wineskins, and both are preserved.”
If you want to receive new wine, you have to be renewed.
How To Be Renewed
1. Surrender To Jesus and Make Him The Lord And Saviour of Your Life.
You cannot have new wineskins without the salvation of your soul. To have new wineskins you need to surrender your life to Jesus, and accept Jesus as your Lord and Saviour, and become born again.
Here is what Jesus said in John 3 verse 3:
Jesus answered and said to him, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.” (New King James Version)
And in John 3 verse 5:
Jesus answered, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. (New King James Version)
Jesus said clearly that only his followers would receive the promise of the Father (the Holy Spirit):
And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever— the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you. John 14: 16 – 17 (New King James Version)
New wine is only for believers because an unbeliever cannot receive the Holy Spirit of God or a fresh baptism of the Spirit of God.

2. Renew Your Mind With The Word Of God.
The scripture says in Romans 12 verse 2:
And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God. (New King James Version).
To renew your mind, you regularly study God’s Word and obey it, apply it to your life and live in obedience to the Word of God. As you do this you become transformed.
Read Isaiah 55, it is an invitation to take heed to the Word of God and enjoy an abundant life.
If you have been praying to God for a new anointing, a new infilling of the Holy Spirit, a higher level in your walk with God; this is the key. Get renewed! Jesus said that you cannot retain your old vessel/wine skin and receive new wine.
3. Sanctify Your Vessel.
In 2 Timothy 2 verses 20 to 21, the scripture talks about being a vessel of honour by cleansing yourself:
But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and silver, but also of wood and clay, some for honor and some for dishonor. Therefore if anyone cleanses himself from the latter, he will be a vessel for honor, sanctified and useful for the Master, prepared for every good work. (New King James Version)
In a large house there are articles not only of gold and silver, but also of wood and clay; some are for special purposes and some for common use. Those who cleanse themselves from the latter will be instruments for special purposes, made holy, useful to the Master and prepared to do any good work. (New International Version)
It is the responsibility of every child of God to cleanse themselves in order to become a vessel of honour, sanctified, holy, useful to God and prepared to do any good work.
Ephesians 5 verse 26 says:
...That He might sanctify and cleanse her with the washing of water by the word. (New King James Version).
Once again we see that the Word of God cleanses. By studying the Word of God, meditating on the Word (Joshua 1:8), and practicing the Word i.e. obeying what the Word of God says, we become cleansed.
James 1 verses 22 to 25 says:
But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man observing his natural face in a mirror; for he observes himself, goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was. But he who looks into the perfect law of liberty and continues in it, and is not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the work, this one will be blessed in what he does. (New King James Version).
