For New Believers

new believers

If you have accepted Jesus Christ as the Lord and Saviour of your life, you have made a great decision. It is time to begin your walk with God.

There are a number of things that will help you as you begin your new life in Christ Jesus.

1. New Believer’s Course

It is important to complete a New Believer’s Course. We have made one available for you. You can download it and complete it at your own pace. The New Believer’s Course is a study designed to guide new and growing Christians into a greater understanding of their new life in Christ.

2. Study God’s Word

As followers of Jesus, we obey the Words of Jesus and live by it. How do you know what the Word of God says? You study the Word of God. To grow in faith you need to study the Word of God. The Word of God is spiritual food. Here is what the Word of God says about that in 1 Peter 2 verse 2:

“As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby”. (King James Version).

If you do not have a Bible already, get one. Use a translation that you understand. While there are many translations available, it is best to stick with a literal translation that stays true to the Word. It is recommended that you use either New King James version, King James Version, Revised Standard Version, New International Version or New Revised Standard Version.

Read the Bible every day. A practical tip is to read the New Testament i.e. Matthew to Revelation. Start from the book of Matthew and read one chapter to the next till you get to Revelation and then start again. You may do it over and over. You will find your life change, and you will find yourself becoming stronger in faith and grounded in God. Read the Old Testament as well.

Whenever you want to read the Bible, pray and ask God to reveal Himself to you, to give you understanding of His Word, and reveal His Word to you.

4. Fellowship With Other Believers

When you become a believer, you should fellowship with other believers. God instructs us to do so. Here is what the early believers did in Acts 2 verse 42:

And they continued steadfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, in the breaking of bread, and in prayers. (New King James Version).

God instructs us to fellowship with fellow believers. See what the Bible says in Hebrews 10 verses 24 to 25:

“And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, 25 not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching”. (New International Version).

Locate a church in your locality that believes the Bible, that believes that Jesus is Lord and He died for the redemption of mankind and was raised from the dead, and lives forever. And believes that God sent His Holy Spirit and believes in the power of the Holy Spirit and the working of miracles. You should pray and ask God to direct you to a church where you should fellowship. He will speak and guide you.

5. Get Baptised

Here are scriptures which instruct that new believers should be baptised.

Mark 16:16 New King James Version (NKJV)

16 He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned.

Acts 2:38 New King James Version (NKJV)

38 Then Peter said to them, “Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

Matthew 28:19-20 New King James Version (NKJV)

19 Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,20 teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen.

Acts 22:16 New King James Version (NKJV)

16 And now why are you waiting? Arise and be baptized, and wash away your sins, calling on the name of the Lord.’

When you find a church, inform the pastor that you have made Jesus Christ the Lord and Saviour of your life and you want to be baptised. Ensure that you get baptised.
