Now That You Are Born Again, What Next?
Congratulations on making the best and most important decision of your life; accepting Jesus as your Lord and Saviour and giving your life to Him. So what do you do next? Obviously, Jesus is now Lord of your life so you live your life for Him.

Here are practical steps to take to grow in your faith and to fulfil the purpose God has for your life.
1. Study God’s Word.
As followers of Jesus, we obey the Words of Jesus and live by it. How do you know what the Word of God says? You study the Word of God. To grow in faith you need to study the Word of God. The Word of God is spiritual food. Here is what the Word of God says about this in 1 Peter 2 verse 2:
“As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby”. (King James Version).
If you do not have a Bible already, get one. Use a translation that you understand. While there are many translations available, it is best to stick with a literal translation that stays true to the Word. It is recommended that you use either New King James version, King James Version, Revised Standard Version, New International Version or New Revised Standard Version.
Read the Bible every day. A practical tip is to read the New Testament i.e. Matthew to Revelation. Start from the book of Matthew and read one chapter to the next till you get to Revelation and then start again. You may do it over and over. You will find your life change, and you will find yourself becoming stronger in faith and grounded in God. Read the Old Testament as well.
Whenever you want to read the Bible, pray and ask God to reveal Himself to you, to give you understanding of His Word, and reveal His Word to you.
2. Communicate With God.
You are now a child of God. The Bible says in John 1 verse 12:
“But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name”. (King James Version)
God is your Father so communicate with Him and call Him Father. See the Lord’s Prayer in Matthew 6: 9 – 13. In the Lord’s prayer Jesus taught us how to pray, and He said we should start by saying ‘Our Father in Heaven’. So go ahead and call God Father because you have become His child.
Pray daily and often within the day, there is really no limit to how long you should spend in prayer to God or how often. Talk to God, sing songs of praise to Him, worship Him, thank Him, glorify His holy Name, ask Him for what you desire.
Jesus said in Mark 11 verse 24:
“Therefore I say to you, whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you will have them”. (New King James version)
So ask God for the things you desire and believe that you receive it and you will have them.
3. New Believers Course
As a new believer, you should complete a new believers’ course. We have made one available on this site for you. The New Believer’s Course is a study designed to guide new and growing Christians into a greater understanding of their new life in Christ. Click HERE to download the course.
4. Fellowship With Other Believers.
When you become a believer, you should fellowship with other believers. In the Bible, God instructs us to do so. Here is what the early believers did in Acts 2 verse 42:
"And they continued steadfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, in the breaking of bread, and in prayers". (New King James Version).
God instructs us to fellowship with fellow believers. See what the Bible says in Hebrews 10 verses 24 to 25:
“And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching”. (New International Version).
Locate a church in your locality that believes the Bible, that believes that Jesus is Lord and He died for the redemption of mankind and was raised from the dead, and lives forever. And believes that God sent His Holy Spirit and believes in the power of the Holy Spirit and the working of miracles. You should pray and ask God to direct you to a church where you should fellowship. He will speak and guide you.
